Our Values

Creating a welcoming, active and respectful community

At the Royal Lymington Yacht Club, we are proud to be a community built on friendship, respect and a shared love of the water. Our aim is simple: to ensure every Member, visitor, volunteer and staff member feels safe, welcomed and able to enjoy all that the Club offers.

This Code of Conduct sets out the standards we uphold to keep our Club positive, inclusive and enjoyable for all.

How We Treat Each Other

We ask all Members to:

  • Treat everyone with courtesy, fairness and respect.
  • Foster a warm, inclusive culture.
  • Welcome new Members and visiting sailors with openness and kindness.

We are a Club for everyone who loves being on or near the water.

How We Represent Our Club

As Members, we are ambassadors for the Club — on the water, in the Clubhouse and in the community.

We expect all Members to:

  • Uphold good manners and good sportsmanship.
  • Behave lawfully, ethically and responsibly.
  • Look after Club facilities, equipment and our shared environment.
  • Help maintain a safe, enjoyable atmosphere for all.

How We Communicate Online

Our digital spaces should feel as respectful and welcoming as our physical ones. Members are asked to:

  • Remember that public posts or photos may reflect on the Club.
  • Use official Club channels for formal information.
  • Be especially considerate in junior or mixed-age group chats.
  • Avoid sharing other Members’ personal information without permission.
  • Communicate thoughtfully and avoid offensive or inflammatory comments.

Safety On and Off the Water

Safety is a shared responsibility. All Members should:

  • Follow Club safety guidance and instructions from staff or volunteers.
  • Use equipment responsibly and only when appropriately trained or authorised.
  • Act with care around children, young sailors and less experienced Members.

Supporting each other keeps everyone safe and confident on the water.

If Things Go Wrong

Most issues can be resolved informally through calm conversation and mutual understanding. When a concern needs formal attention, the Club has a clear, confidential procedure for handling misconduct. Staff matters are addressed through employment procedures.

Our goal is always to encourage positive behaviour, protect wellbeing and uphold the Club’s values.

In Summary

This Code is not about rules — it’s about the culture we create together. By joining the Royal Lymington Yacht Club, you help build:

  • A safe place to sail.
  • A welcoming home for all.
  • A supportive, respectful community.
  • A Club that feels alive and relevant every time you walk in.
