Junior & Youth Sailing

Our Junior and Youth programmes offer young sailors a clear, year-round route into the sport. In summer there is regular on-the-water training, racing and informal sailing; in winter, coaching, shore-based activities and social events. With something for every level, the Club gives young sailors the chance to learn, progress and compete within a welcoming and supportive community.
Shipmates is the first step into sailing for our youngest Members. In a safe, well-organised setting, children build confidence on the water and lay the foundations for everything that follows.
Mariners builds on Shipmates, developing seamanship, practical sailing skills and a sense of exploration through cruising-style activities.
Optimist sailors of all abilities train and race in one of the world's most widely sailed junior classes.
RS Tera is the natural next step for young sailors ready for more independent single-handed racing, with regular coaching and Club racing.
RS Feva introduces double-handed racing, developing teamwork and boat-handling skills.
ILCA offers a competitive single-handed route into youth and adult racing, supported by organised training and Club racing.
29er is our high-performance double-handed class, where focused and ambitious sailors develop advanced boat handling, teamwork and tactics.
420 is an established Olympic-pathway double-handed class for youth sailors committed to competitive racing.
Wednesday Junior Sailing (WJS) is the Club's long-established community outreach programme for young people aged 8–18 who live within 10 miles of the Club.
