The Royal Lymington Yacht Club supports a strong and varied group of cruiser, cruiser-racer, and keelboat fleets. These fleets welcome sailors of different experience levels, offering regular racing, cruising activity and opportunities to develop skills within a supportive community.
Cruiser Racers
Lymington is an excellent base for cruiser racing. Enjoy the tactical challenges of The Solent and Needles Channel, or opt for fairer, less tidal racing in Christchurch Bay. The Club supports a strong fleet racing under IRC and the Lymington Adjusted Handicap (LAH) systems.

J/80s
The J/80 fleet in Lymington is one of the strongest in the area, with over twenty boats racing regularly. The class races under One Design rules in Club Series and local regattas, while its IRC rating of around 0.958 also allows J/80s to compete effectively in the keelboat handicap fleets.

Nordic Folkboat
The Nordic Folkboat is a classic Swedish design that combines traditional character with rewarding sailing performance, making it well suited to both cruising and one-design racing. Racing twice-weekly with regular participants at international level.

XOD
First launched in 1907, the X One Design remains a distinctive and competitive keelboat, with boats over a century old racing. Home to one of the strongest XOD fleets, the fleet offers close one-design racing, supported by a strong culture of shared knowledge and camaraderie, with post-race gatherings a valued part of XOD life at the Club.

RS21
A modern one-design keelboat that brings close, tactical racing and accessible performance with minimal complexity to our keelboat programme. Designed for mixed crews and varying experience levels. With a growing fleet at the Club, the RS21 class offers an exciting opportunity for sailors to help shape a developing one-design community.

Crew Match
The Club’s Crew Match programme makes it easy to get involved in keelboat racing, whether you’re new to sailing or looking to crew more regularly. By connecting skippers and crew across the season, it provides a simple, welcoming route into keelboat racing, helping sailors build experience, confidence and connections at the Club.
